Coffee-break – Old shoes store:
Sometimes the seams rip apart. Sometimes the leather cracks and breaks open. Sometimes the sole wears thin. Sometimes life is more a metaphor than poetry… Looking back upon that time in the shoe store it really was a story. Life much simpler then. Working with your hands brings it’s certain own intrinsic reward. The clear definition of the flow of seasons struck a chord.
The warmth of Summer, repairs on sandals and thongs for scantily clad women wearing big countenances. The slow steady reverie of Autumn, gone was the searing heat of summer. Welcoming the colours, the trees bringing their best display of radiance. Light boots and shoes, still the warmth and the obligation of show for the ladies. The hefty coolness of Winter, the snow gripping to the soles of shoes to repair, not a luxury, it was a necessity. The blinding dazzle of white snow glistening like the eyes of a newborn child. Then Spring again, thawing the remnants of snow from the memory. Leaving the cool behind to usher in the warmth of the day again. The rebirth of friendlier climes. Pragmatism pushed aside for the romance of warmth. And Summer once more. The cycle of change completed.
Were the interior changes cyclical, or did wisdom grow with the change of seasons? Was it a crescendo of wisdom or a steady labour of happiness? It was never make overt, but either way, it was definitely a very happy time at the shoe store. Some things never leave you. Some memories are more vivid than reality, especially when you are stuck in the nine to five and dreaming of fonder times…
